Unable to receive email using Outlook 2013

Hi,

I'm having trouble with Outlook receiving emails and having some minor trouble sending emails as well.

My problem started when Outlook one day would not let me delete any of my email, saying that I did not have permission to perform that function.

Then I noticed that I was unable to receive my mail and when I send email, I get an 'error (0x80040119) The message cannot be saved to your IMAP e-mail account Sent Items folder, because Outlook is offline or the email server doesn't allow items to be saved to the sent items folder'.

There is no error when retrieving emails, it just doesn't download any even though I know there are some on the server it hasn't already downloaded.

I can still send and receive emails using my other devices.

I tried removing and creating a new account but that didn't work either.

I have tried re-installing office and still no luck

I still have the .ost file that contains my emails that I would also like to recover but I haven't been successful so far.

I had not done anything to my knowledge that would have affected outlook this way.

Please help.

Answer

In some support cases we have had with this issue it was possible to workaround it by setting the Root folder path.  In Outlook try these steps to see if they help.

1.File-> Account Settings-> Account Settings…
2.Double click on your IMAP account.
3.Button: More Options…
4.Tab: Advanced
5.Option: Root folder path
6.Usually setting this to “Inbox” will help.
7.OK yourself out all of the opened dialogs.
