I have assembled a series of documents (chapters) up to 25 pages with photos, charts and call outs. These were to be assembled into a large report, after being edited by a number of others. At this point, is it possible to a) track changes, b) edit in
Word, make tracked changes and re-import to Publisher, c) combine the chapters into a single document with pagination for each chapter, or d) search the combined document for continuity of font, margin, color scheme, etc?
You are correct, Publisher is very limited on large documents.
a) No you cannot track changes like you do in Word.
b) You can edit a 'story' or text box in Word. Select the text box > Text Box Tools and use the 'Edit Story in MS Word' command. If memory serves I had to add this command to the tool bar by the right click, customize toolbar option in Pub 2010. I don't
know if the changes would be tracked by Word. I don't use that function in Word.
c) There is no good way to combine Publisher files other than laboriously copy and pasting page by page. Some have combined by converting to PDF using third party tools and appending each file to the single PDF file. www.primopdf.com gives you that functionality.
d) No search...just start with the same templates or page parts. You can save formatted formatted text boxes as 'building blocks' and inserting as a 'page part'. You can also use the 'format painter'.
Bottom line is that Word is the much better choice for large documents. It may be harder to layout pages but for formatting text and organizing a book and collaborative efforts Word is superior. Sorry.
