Outlook 2010--can't hide message header in reading pane

Running 32-bit Outlook2010 on 64-bit Windows7, logged in as standard user.

I've tried changing the View options to select the "Hide message header" checkbox (Reading pane), but clicking "OK" merely redraws the message and header. View options reverts to the hide header checkbox being deselected.

I worked with MS tech support on this. It got escalated all the way up the chain and was confirmed as a bug--Bug ID: 744430. No fix likely before Office Service Pack 1.
