How to Hide ONE DRIVE PERSONAL from Save As menu in MS Word 2013/2016

dear all,

to make our office compliance with company security guideline, every user is prohibited to save work file on personal cloud storage. one of the challenge is we need to  hide one drive personal from save as menu in ms word 2013/2016.

how do we hide it both manually or via gpo in active directory?

so this users can only save to one drive for business and share-point online.

any help is appreciated.

regards,

faisal

Answer

hi faisal,

the registry key for the current user to remove the onedrive personal option in office 2013 is:

hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\office\15.0\common\signin

add dword: signinoptions

value: 2

note: this page contains information about editing the registry. before you edit the registry, make sure you understand how to restore it if a problem occurs. for information about how to do this, view how to back up and restore the registry in windows.

modifying registry incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of registry can be solved. modify registry at your own risk.

if you are using office 2016, please change the 15.0 to 16.0.

if you want to achieve it via group policy, download the administrative template files in the following articles first:

for office 2016: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49030

for office 2013: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35554

copy the admx files inside the folder and paste them to c:\windows\policydefinitions and the files inside en-us folder and paste them to c:\windows\policydefinitions\en-us as the following shows:

open group editor > user configuration -> administrative template -> microsoft office 2013 (or 2016) -> miscellaneous -> block signing into office set to enable and select org id only as the following shows:

if you need more assistance about group policy, we would suggest you post in our group policy forum to get professional help. we appreciate your understanding.
