Outlook 365 Contacts no longer syncing with iPhone via iTunes

Hi

I have been succesfully syncing my Outlook 365 Contacts and Calendar with my iPhone via iTunes for several years without any issues. It would work in both directions.

However just recently I noticed that the contacts have stopped syncing. The calender is syncing fine.

I have ensured that the check mark to sync contacts with Outlook is still selected on the iTunes info page.

I have tried toggling this off and back on several times but it has made no difference.

Any suggestions on how I may be able to resolve this would be very welcome.

Thanks for your time.

Hello Board_Room,

Have you tried resetting or re-adding the account? Here are some instructions for you:

In the Outlook app, go to Settings Outlook app settings > Tap the account that is not syncing > Tap Reset Account. Check to see if your account is syncing.

Still not working? Delete and re-add your email account:

From Settings Outlook app settings , tap the account that is not syncing > tap Delete Account > Delete From This Device.

Then re-add your email account in Outlook for Android or Outlook for iOS.

Hi OG-IT

Thanks for taking the time to read my post and reply with the info.

Perhaps you may have missed it that I am using the desktop version of Outlook 365 on a Windows 10 PC so the references to the mobile Outlook app are not relevant.

The account is working fine i.e no email issues and the calendar syncs via iTunes.

The only issue that the contacts no longer synch between my iPhone and Outlook 365.

Cheers

B R

Hi Board Room,

Based on the shared information, I believe you are using one Office 365 and one Apple account.  Both Office 365 and iTunes versions are up to date.

Before start the troubleshooting, I'd like to reconfirm whether the Office 365 account you have added to your Outlook is set as Exchange, IMAP or POP - for your reference - Outlook> File> Account settings> Account settings> Email. The information is under Type next to the account.

Next thing to reconfirm would be whether syncing between your iPhone and iTunes works. Please make a change and connect to your online account to check whether the changes are made. If the changes are as expected, you may try to reinstall iTunes desktop client on PC.

For the last step, please check whether the contacts are syncing when you connect your iPhone to PC - https://support.office.com/en-us/article/synchronize-outlook-and-apple-iphone-or-ipod-touch-contacts-149cbfc5-4396-4ab3-8b65-22915e4043dc.

Best regards,

Nemanja

Hi Nemanja

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply.

I sync the contacts and calendar from Outlook 365 with an iPhone XR via iTunes.

The calendar continues to sync in both directions without any issues using this method. However the contacts have recently stopped syching.  Prior to this current issue the contacts sync had been working fine.

My email account (POP) is working fine in Outlook 365 and is not involved with the sych issue.

I can confirm that the option (in iTunes) to sync contacts with Outlook is on. See screen capture below.

Regards

B R

Hi Board Room,

From the described scenario, the expected way to sync the calendar and contacts would be true Office 365 account set as Exchange instead of POP. Between POP, IMAP and Exchange, only exchange configuration can sync calendar and contacts.

From the information you have send, looks like you are using Apple's software to sync between the clients. For the most efficient troubleshooting, please refer to iTunes support since the process is a part of iTunes application.

Your time and understanding will be highly appreciated.

Best regards,

Nemanja

Havent managed to get it fixed yet.

However in my searching for answers I came across CompanionLink and DejaOffice which claims to do the sync without the need for iTunes/iCloud/MS Exchange.  I havent tried it out yet but looks like its worth a go if nothing else works. See the link below. You may want to give it a try. Let me know how you get on if you do.
