Error Message (Missing SolutionCenter.msi)

When I open HP Solution Center, the "error" message I get is "the feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the 'SolutionCenter' disk and click OK." There is a window for "Use source" and in the window is the number one (1). Your other choice is "browse" to find were the feature is. When I click on the button to open "browse", it opens in my default folder with a window for a choice for "File name:" and the file name is "SolutionCenter".  The button for the missing document is "Installation Package (*.msi).

I can cancel the window that pops up with the "error" message and the program will still open. But before the program opens, the "error" message I get is "an installation package for the product SolutionCenter cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'SolutionCenter.msi'." When the program opens, the first error message pops up again: "the feature you are trying..." I have to cancel again to get the program back. I would like to fix this problem so I can stop getting these error messages.

HP Solutions Center came pre-installed, and I didn't have this problem until I had to restore from a "saved start point". Is there fix for this problem? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hi GeorgiaRand,

Thank you for posting your question in Microsoft Community Forums.

From the issue description I understand that you are unable to open HP Solution Center on Windows Vista computer.

Boot the computer in safe mode and check whether the issue persists, if the issue does not persist then perform clean boot and check whether the issue resolves.

Step 1: Safe mode

Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs don't run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed. Please click on the mentioned link below.

Step 2

Put the computer in clean boot and check if it helps.

By setting your system in clean boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

Note: After clean boot troubleshooting step, refer to “How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot” from above article.
