Remove the TrojanDownloader:Win32/Adload.DA virus from your PC

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64, with Norton 360 v5.0. Windows as well as Norton is updated daily. But I get this message, titled "Remove the TrojanDownloader:Win32/Adload.DA virus from your PC", with "Windows has detected , a known virus, on your computer."  in Action Center. I scanned with Microsoft Safety Scanner as mentioned in the action details, tried MalwareBytes, apart from Norton 360, but none of them detected any malware. I also do not experience any of the symptoms mentioned in http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/threat/encyclopedia/entry.aspx?Name=TrojanDownloader%3aWin32%2fAdload.DA (like the folder/files with name opencap can't be found). And moreover, does Windows detect virus/malware by itself? Any solutions for the message?

It could be a fake virus alert. You have indicated that you ran several virus scans and your system has come up clean. Read this.

How do I find whether I have a rogue antivirus? Because, I installed Norton 360 only and no other antivirus software before. Further, whenever any program crashes (because of some internal problem with the program itself), Action Center generates a report and states that the crash is because of this malware. So is Windows itself generating fake virus alert or is it due to Norton 360? Also , the alert is displayed sometimes and sometimes "No current issues is detected" is displayed. But whenever the alert is displayed, it is not of high priority (no red cross image is displayed).

Hi Balaji,

You are giving conflicting statements on this issue. You previously stated that you were not experiencing any malware symptoms but you are now saying you have experienced crashes that have been flagged by action center as being caused by this phantom malware.

If the scans are coming up clean, i would suspect that these are erroneous alerts and sometimes the solution might be to unregister the file WMIUTILS.DLL, and after rebooting, re-register the file and reboot again and check to see if these alerts stop popping up.

The crash is very rare, hardly once in a month, that too is not a part of Windows component. It usually occurs with Flash Player update or any program designed for Windows XP or older versions only. Except these, the PC works without any issue.

When these kinds of issues occur, the action center notification is displayed for one day to at most five days. After that, "No current issues detected" is displayed.

Have tried unregistering and re-registering, WMIUTILS.dll as I suggested?

Hi Balaji,

Please boot the computer in safe mode with networking and perform an online virus scan.

Refer to the link:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

Download and run the latest Microsoft Safety Scanner on your computer and check if it helps

Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.

For any Windows related issues please feel free to contact us and we will be glad to help.

Hi Balaji,

As you are saying that you are not facing any issues apart from the virus alert from Norton, I would suggest you to check once with Norton support for any known issues:

Thank you for the reply.

But, I don't understand this: Norton never raises the issues, only Windows does. Does Windows detect any malware by itself? Or is it due to a conflict between Norton and Windows?
