How to stop Windows 10 being downloaded in background?

Hello,

i already uninstalled the "update" KB3035583 to remove Windows 10 Upgrade Tool and never reinstalled this "update".

Today i was alerted by some strange download activities in the background. So i did some task manager researches and found some activities going to a Microsoft server (msedge):

Than i looked where this stuff is saved and found this file activity:

I opened that folder and found there some files each with about 2,65 gb size:

So, what is going on here? It seems that this files will become WIM image files sometimes:

But why are there three files and NO, I DON'T WANT WINDOWS 10 yet!! So what else can i do to stop this bull...?

So here is my solution that has successfully stopped the unwanted downloads so far now:

- Uninstall KB3035583 and KB2976978 updates

- After the next search for updates they will be back, so you have to "hide" this "updates", so they will never be installed (Select "hide this update" in context menu)

- Run regedit.exe and do the following changes:

In the registry go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]

and create a new DWORD entry "DisableOSUpgrade" (dword) and set it to "00000001"
- You alternatively can paste the following to a new text file and save it e. g. as "disable_win10_dl.reg". Note there are two empty lines at the bottom.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
"DisableOSUpgrade"=dword:00000001

- Than run the saved file by doubleclicking and confirm the warnings.

- To enable the forced Windows 10 download again, change the dword value to "00000000".

- After restarting your computer the download should has stopped.

- You now can delete all the big files (as in the screenshots above) in the Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads folder.
