Upgrading from 250GB to 300GB on a newer xbox 360.

I currently have a 250GB hdd installed in my xbox 360 and I plan to upgrade to 500GB. How do I go about transferring everything from the old drive to the new drive? I thought of buying a transfer cable, transferring everything to my computer, then to the 500GB hdd, is there an easier/better way?

The largest Hard drive that Microsoft makes for the 360 is 320GB. If you are upgrading to a 500GB hard drive it is unauthorized and you should not transfer any data to it. If you plan on getting an external hard drive the 360 only supports up to 32GBs of external storage on any one device

The maximum capacity of a hard drive for the 360 is 320 GB. 500 GB is for the Xbox One. Anyways, try switching the hard drives, then login, and see if you can find your stuff in the download history to re-download it. Also, taking it from your Xbox, to your computer might make it a complete mess...

i've found plenty of 3rd party HDD's of 500Gib capacity on eBay with xbox 360 packaging... and if it works, why is it unauthorised? surely if (like with PC upgrades) it works, then why should Microsoft dictate the HDD capacity? my 250Gib HDD is almost full in only 8 months of having the xbox 360 so, unless i'm going to keep swapping the 250/320Gib's i'm gonna have to opt for the 500... i'll let you know if it works, or whether i'm gonna have to annoy Mr gates to 'allow me' to upgrade to a 500Gib capacity HDD...

They're unauthorized because they're not actually made by Microsoft. It may still work, but if anything goes wrong with it Microsoft is not responsible for anything that happens and will not be able to fix it for you. It's also a violation of the terms of service to use unauthorized hardware, so you would be putting your console at risk for being banned.

so, the only question i have is; is this gonna start happening with ALL microsoft enabled products? like e.g. windows laptops and windows gaming rigs that NEED constant upgrades? i ran out of space on my HDD with DLC games and NOT MUCH ELSE SO, even tho' i'm spending alot of money on [some would say overpriced] DLC games and i want to invest in third party hardware so i can spend MORE getting DLC and hard2find DLC games, Mr Gates will BAN ME fo it!?! next thing you won't even be able to use third party controllers like mad catz wheels cos they 'invalidate' an agreement which NOBODY but Bill Gates wants to enforce... he's one of the richest men in the world and STILL ripping people off... if i got banned, i think i'll go back to Playstation and buy number 4, 'specially ad sony spalshed out on the hardware which Microsoft DIDN'T  DO with xbox one....

another thing, all microsoft has to do to allow third party hardware is something called 'quality control', basically if it meets standards, it should be allowed [and servicable..]
