Unreadable discs

It might be your laser, and you might need to get your xbox repaired.  But first, take out any games in your xbox.  Then turn your xbox on the side that it wasn't on before. (Sideways, or standing up).  Then put a disc in and see if it works.

I had the same problem but my xbox would be standing up, and after laying it down, it can read discs fine.

Try installing the games to your hard drive, and make sure your games don't have any major scratches etc. It could be a problem with your Xbox. If you think it's a problem with the console then you should contact Xbox support. Also make sure that you DO NOT move your Xbox from the standing position to a side position vice versa while the game is in the tray, it will scratch the game

My xbox 360 s has just stopped recognising disks but only since I updated with the latest system update today. It worked fine before I updated. Why has the update broken it? I have tried 3 or 4 games and none of them read, the disks are perfect with no scratches and all worked fine before the update. Help!!

I think it is just coincidence re the update. If an update has caused disc drives to stop working people would be going crazy on the forums etc. and you are the first to suggest any link.

MIne reads CDs with no trouble but has trouble reading games. If I open and close the tray a few times it eventually reads the game. I'm talking brand new games too.
