Is boosting the same as cheating?

I was called a cheater on a Bad Company board for wanting to boost achievements via boosting methods. Is boosting cheating or not?  I know people defend it.  Please give a case where it is not cheating or cheating.

Boosting, as in playing an online match with friends, within the parameters of the game (not modding), is a cheap tactic, but it's not "cheating".

Boosting can ruin games but it isn't cheating.

When you get "help" getting those stupid 10,000 melee kill achievements and the other ones like them, it's not cheating.

Not exactly cheating but some games will punish you for doing it.

i don't understand, you consider playing a game online with friends boosting? just having fun messing around playing with your close personal friends is a "cheap tactic"?

 

i suppose if you meant a group of friends were organized and dominating the session, as in they filled the most player spots, and killing each other in some kind of pattern or organized fashion, then yeah, that could easily be considered boosting and perhaps even cheating in a way.

It depends.

If you shooting the same guy in a public  game effects to outcome  of a match for other players then yes.
