I've been told that my E74 error is unrepairable. My hard drive will supposedly not work on a new system, so does that mean there is no way to retrieve all my profile and game data etc? Online game data?

Unrepairable E74 error?

Your console will need to be repaired by Microsoft. When you send it in you keep the hard drive (so there is no danger of that being wiped out).

Hi LET0ATREIDES,
If you are getting the error code E74, then your console will need to be repaired. You can set up a repair and check your warranty status at our Online Service Center.
If you decide to get a new system you can use the Xbox 360 Hard Drive Transfer Cable to transfer the data from your old hard drive to the new console. Keep in mind that your Xbox LIVE profile and DLC's can be re-downloaded from Xbox LIVE.

This will be the third time this console needs repaired, and I was told they would charge $100- $150 plus shipping, so I took it into a local shop and they said it was unrepairable. It definitely is not worth fixing for 100 bucks or more. So is there a way to get at my HDD data with a broken box?

So I have to buy a new xbox, plus a $30 cable I'll only use once? Are the next gen systems coming out at the end of the year?
