MS Points

Why are we still paying so much for MS points when the Australian dollar is so high? Currently in the USA they get approx 80points to the dollar but we only get approx 61points. With the Australian dollar much higher than the greenback why are we still paying so much more than them and how can this be justified? Is Microsoft going to do the same as Apple did to their Itunes store last week and lower the prices? If not then why not and what is the reasoning behind it?? I have called the xbox support line and couldnt even be pointed in the right direction to air my question and the several posts I have made here and on the xbox australia facebook page have been ignored. I think it is about time this issue was addressed by Microsoft and we as a community are treated with respect by having this answered by a MS representative.

MS representative?! they exist? urban myth me thinks.

I earned almost $20 an hour when I was 19 working at Big W. They'd be lucky to earn $10 and hour as a full adult in Walmart. Plus our prices include tax.

Well Apple of readjusted the pricing of their Aussie store to better reflect our dollar, hopefully that prompts other companies to do similar things, but then again, they'd just be getting even more money

If you shop around you get good deals anyway. Mighty Ape had 1500 points at $19.90 yesterday, and *** Smith had 3000 points for $40 for the past 2 weeks, ended Monday. That's 75 points to the dollar.

In an ideal world we'd get 2000 points for the 1500 point RRP but this world has never been ideal [:)]

Also I'd rather live in Australia's economy than America's right now. They're so screwed it's not even laughable anymore.

That's why Microsoft chose to use MS points and not currency! Whatever the world market does it won't help anyone with a "better" currency against the US.

I say "better" because things will flatten in a few years!

Apple is actually worse...they charge in currency, yet the US prices are cheaper?!?!

Microsoft says its up to the game developers to set the price of DLC but its up to them to set the cost of the actual MS points. When I pointed this out to an employee my phone call was strangely ended. Then when I called back I just kept getting transferred around until I was finally disconnected again. This is shocking customer service! All I want is for someone from MS to justify or explain why but it seems no one can. As far as Im concerned its just blatant highway robbery!

The argument is only valid if you view dlc as an item imported from the US with no additional costs to MS to deliver it to our market. If the dlc is viewed as a local purchase then what it costs anywhere else in the world is no longer relevant. What is relevant is the local costs. Given our smaller market there will be a higher allocation of overheads per item. Sure there may be no major overhead cost so there may still be an argument we pay too much but comparing to US prices is irrelevant.

Pricing and content availability for many things, from overseas-based traders, is regional.

This is not unique to Microsoft products and services. Hassling their customer service departments is pointless and won't get you anywhere.

Either explore the many ways in which you can circumvent these issues by purchasing from third-party online stores...or just get over it. Unfortunately, they're your only two options.
