Hacking and stealing money

i was hacked on my xbox live account and they changed my settings and my windows live id and password. and then they proceeded to fraudulently use my credit card that i had on the account and stole $75.00 to purchase a 6000 pts card! and download 3 games, gamer pictures, etc. i expected this from Sony but not Xbox. Honestly im really frustrated and dissapointed in Xbox for letting this happen as i know they saw what has happened to the Sony franchise. you would think that they would make some different measures to stop the hacking so they would not have an ISSUE like SONY on their hands.

there is NO proof of hacking

phishing your details is not the same as hacking

i suggest you read up on it

what happened to sony is not the same as phishing

when an server is comprimised millions of accounts is comprimised not just you or the few that don't know much about computers so thats null and void

if you share info with other accounts like PSN or facebook you should really REALLY read up on NETWORK SECURITY

using the same login and password at differents sites isn't very smart

please read this article on account security

and call xbox support and open an unauthorized access case

Best thing to do know is to contact your card company and explain the issue regarding those illegal purchases

You weren't 'hacked'. There are a limited number of ways anyone can gain access to your account:

-you give out your personal information including e-mail and password (this is most commonly associated with people trying to obtain an illigitimate rank in a game without actually earning it)

-you are phished (this is common amongst the free ms points/generators that you see offered around the internet)

-you are socially engineered (this happens when a player engages another in seemingly senseless chit chat about their lives, but turns out to be a 20 question
session trying to gain your personal information so they can steal your account)

-you use an unsecure PC (typically you will want to have your encryption turned on if using wireless and be running a good anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-
malware program as well)

-you use the same e-mail address and password for your XBL account that you use for other websites/services (for maximum security you should be using an
e-mail address and password just for XBL that you do not use anywhere else)

-you thought it would be a good idea if your friends/family knew your log in information (you know, in case they want to play)

All of the above is controllable from the users end. MS already keeps our information safe and secure. Now we need to do our part in doing the same. If you feel your account has been compromised then you need to contact phone support for your region (US/Canada: 1-800-4MY-XBOX. For anywhere else click the Support link at the top of the page, then on Contact Us at the bottom of that page and finally on By Phone) and have them start an Unauthorized Access Investigation, which at that time they will LOCK the account until it is complete, usually within 7-30 business days. Then they will send an e-mail with the results to the e-mail address associated with the account (so make sure your contact information is up to date).

If you believe that someone else has taken control of your account, please contact phone support in your region (support.xbox.com/.../contact-us.aspx) and ask to open an Unauthorized Access claim. They will investigate your account (it will be frozen for the duration) and take any necessary action. Thanks!
