La Noire made a point of getting in establish actors to do the voice acting for their games...something more high end games will probably follow suit. The fact is, if the voice coming out of a character on screen doesnt deliver the same emotion as the drama of the story or just the right voice for the character then it wont be believable and gets annoying...Fable III for example, so many Celeb voices in there...none of which made the game any better

For games that rely on characters speaking to enhance the story, like Mass Effect, GTA and others...if you dont get the voice acting right you end up with a game that is laughable and will always grate on you. It has deffinitely gotten better as games have developed, if you really want to see how its evolved, pick up any of the special Edition Monkey Island gamess from the marketplace, see the orignal version then switch to the redone version...it will blow your mind!

There's been tons already, from the original Splinter Cell to GTA3 to much older stuff like the Discworld games...

Not implying that La Noire was the first by any means, but it did make a point in its marketing campaign to showcase the actors they had used in the game.

Just from a true fanboy geek point of view, when I heard the voices of Kevin Conway and Mark Hamill repeating their roles as the voices of Batman and The Joker in Arkham Asylum that alone was worth the £40 I spent on the game lol

Yes....god forgive my lapse in typing lol GTA is probably the best voice casted game...just look it up to see the hollywood names that took part in the game.

Tbh, I think I prefer hollywood talent to stay away from voice acting in games, apart from the awesome Michael Ironside of course, he IS Sam Fisher, lol... but imagine if Lara Croft, Master Chief, Sonic, Solid Snake,etc were voiced by hollywood types, it just wouldn't be right, especially if it's someone with a distinctive voice, it detracts from what you're seeing.

My other exception to the rule would be Heavenly Sword... Andy Serkis is genius!

I feel that good voice acting is essential these days.

The guy who voices knox in OFRR makes the game so much better, if he would have been voiced by someone else i may not have enjoyed the game as much.

I don’t think ruling out Hollywood actors is a good idea, I think it's only a good idea if they don't "get it".

There have been many Hollywood actors who do a fantastic job in video games such as Sean Bean as Martin Septim in Oblivion, Patrick Stewart as Uriel Septim in Oblivion, Sam Jackson as officer Tenpenny in GTA: San Andreas, Nathon Fillion as Buck in Halo 3: ODST, Tricia Helfer in Mass Effect 2 as EDI and in Halo 3: ODST as Veronica Dare.

The list goes on and on, there are loads of Hollywood actors who do fantastic VO.

Who's the woman that does the voice over for the Locust Queen in Gears 2 and Dr Chakwas in Mass Effect?

I just love her voice.

I don't mind Hollywood actors as not all of them are bad.
