A month to update email?

I signed into Xbox.com tonight to turn off the auto renewal on my Xbox live account. In order to do so, a security code needed to be sent to my email. I don't use the email associated with my Xbox live account anymore, so I decided to try and update it. I chose to delete the current one and update my account to be my current email that I use the most frequently. I went back to change my auto renewal again but the only email account available was my old one. I went back to double check that I changed my email and noticed that the changes wouldn't go into effect until 2/21/2013. That's a month away! A MONTH!!!.

It's an understatement to call that a terrible inconvenience. The entire point of me logging on NOW is to change my email NOW not in a MONTH. When I contacted Xbox support chat I got to talk to Darryl and the only helpful thing Darryl could do was take me here to file a complaint. Darryl claims that it's for "account protection services". Pardon me if I don't understand how forcing me to wait a MONTH to do something I want done NOW protects my account. I don't understand why I can't change my own account NOW. It's my account! I have my password and all other security information, why should I wait a MONTH!?!

Customer service couldn't help me which forces me to suffer a terrible inconvenience(understatement) at the hands of Microsoft. I am very angry right now, as trying to deal with this has kept me up late and I have an early morning tomorrow.

Thank you, Microsoft, for forcing me to wait a MONTH to take care of the things I wanted to get done TONIGHT and keeping me up late dealing with your helpless customer service. I sincerely hope someone reads this and considers changing the MONTH long wait period for changing emails. I only came here because I was lead to believe this is where one files complaints. If no one reads this, then I just wasted more time on you, Microsoft.

Goodnight.

Hi there,

just to explain the month wait taime, it is a security measure, but it's not to protect your account from yourself, but to protect it when somebody 'steals' the account.

If one happens to steal an account, they are now unable to quickly change the security settings like the email on the account.

Which will allow the original owner to get it back.

This measure is not something specific to xbox live accounts, but to Microsoft Accounts, so for any complaints or feedback I would advise to post the compaint in the Microsoft Support forums.

So you're telling me customer service sent me to the wrong place to complain and provide feedback? Wow.

It sounds like you're telling me that Microsoft is punishing me for the actions of others, namely hackers. I still don't understand why I should suffer because of hackers. Hackers who, mind you, don't have access to my account. It's my own account, I'm in charge of it and hackers are in no way associated with it. I don't have to worry about getting it back, it's mine and I never lost it.

Because the security proofs are setup on the Microsoft account which is connected to the xbox live account it is not a Xbox Support related issue, but Microsoft Support.

It's a security measure to prevent hackers/phisers that get access to an account quickly changing the details. Since Microsoft doesn't know which accounts might be stolen, this security measure is for all accounts not just yours, and they can exclude any accounts from that measure when people say that they won't be hacked.
