Since I changed from Hotmail to Outlook, junk mail is much, much worse

I've tweaked all the settings, and habitually mark the junk mail as junk, but it just keeps pouring in.  Hotmail was much better in this regard. I've offered this as feedback numerous times to Outlook, but there has been no response. Anyone else having this problem, and have you found any solutions? Otherwise I like Outlook a lot.

Microsoft recommends that you follow these guidelines to help reduce junk e-mail:

 

* Don't reply to junk e-mail, even to ask to be removed from the sender's mailing list. The sender may simply use that response to confirm that your e-mail address is valid, and continue to send you junk e-mail. To report the message as junk e-mail, select the message, click Junk.

* To report the e-mail message as a suspected phishing scam (Falsely claiming to be a legitimate business to send you to a fake website or scam you into giving out private information.), click Mark as - Phishing scam.

* Remove your e-mail address from any web page, newsgroup, or bulletin board available on the Internet.

* To remove your e-mail address from newsletters or mailing lists that are on your safe senders list, you can click Unsubscribe. Microsoft notifies the people who created the newsletter to stop sending it to you. 

Note: If you receive junk e-mail that looks as if it was sent from your Hotmail account, someone may have spoofed (Sending messages with fake or stolen account information) your account information.

 

If you wish to report abuse about harassment, impersonation, child exploitation, child pornography etc, received from a Microsoft Hotmail account should send their complaint to *** Email address is removed for privacy *** with all the pertaining information. For added information, please visit:

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forums. I'll be glad to assist you with your issue that you're receiving junk mail from an account with a @hotmail.com domain. There are a couple of ways to block a specific sender from your account. Please refer to the steps below:

Blocked Sender's List:

  1. Go to your Microsoft account’s Inbox page.
  2. Click on the gear icon before your name in the upper right corner of the page. Please click on Options then More mail settings.
  3. From the screen Options under the category “Preventing junk email”, click Safe and blocked senders.
  4. Click Blocked senders.
  5. In the Blocked senders list, add the name or domain (the part of an e-mail address that follows the “@” sign, such as @hotmail.com/@outlook.com) that you now want to block mail from.

Sweep:

  1. Sign in to your Microsoft account.
  2. Go to your Inbox.
  3. Right above your Inbox, please click on Sweep dropdown arrow on the menu bar.
  4. Please choose, Delete all of them? Before clicking Delete all,you can tick the box for Also block future messages.

Note: Before doing Step 4, you need to select at least one message before you can do this. To select one or more messages, just check the box before each message.

 

Rules for sorting new messages: Auto delete

  1. Go to your Microsoft account’s Inbox page.
  2. Click on the gear icon before your name in the upper right corner of the page. Please click on Options then More mail settings.
  3. From the screen Options under the category Customizing Outlook, click Rules for sorting new messages.
  4. Click New. On Step 1, select Sender's address, contains on the dropdown menu for the first and 2nd box respectively. On the third box type the common user name, domain name or keywords of the sender's address. On Step 2, you can either pick Delete these messages—don't even put them in my Deleted folder or move it to a specific folder.
  5. Click Save.
