* Please try a lower page number.

When the little window pops up, check both boxes. One should say something like "scan and repair bad sectors" and the other should say "Automatically fix file errors". Check both boxes and click the start button. The computer will pop open another window that says it needs to "schedule" a repair. Click ok and reboot your computer. On reboot, DOS will tell you that a disk check has been scheduled, to interrupt press any key. DO NOT INTERRUPT. Once you have verified that the scan will run, walk away from the computer. This method may take several hours to complete but, it will find, fix and recover any errors the power failure created. And should bring your computer back to a normal state. Let me know how it goes.

Davee
It's a 10.1" screen ASUS Eee PC 1005 HAB. The hard drive is 160GB and I believe is SATA (though I don't pretend to know what that means).
The disc came with the computer and has Eee PC emblazoned at the top. The title of the disc is:
1001HA/1005HA XP Support DVD Rev 1.0
and there is a number at the bottom A1912
I ran the disc because I was experiencing the same problem (not booting past the logo screen) and hoped this would restore system health. I followed the computer's User Manual in using the disc (including disabling the boot booster since it was running via an external dvd drive). After I ok'd the recovery to start the disc seemed to run fine and I ok'd the option to restart. The pc did so, but only to the logo screen again.
To give some context, it's my son's pc and he had been using it (tethering?) to run his xbox online.
Thanks for your help.

First, try to restore the integrity of the file system and hard drive by running check disk from recovery console. Follow the directions below carefully. Do not use your OEM disc for this. Create a Recovery Console disc. Make a note of any errors found and fixed by check disk. It may be necessary to run it several times. Be advised it may take a few hours to complete.
Follow the instructions HERE to create a Windows Xp Recovery Console disc.
1. Insert the Recovery Console CD into your CD drive and restart your computer. If you are prompted, select any options required to start (boot) from the CD.
2. When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts. Select the repair or recover option by pressing R.
3. If you have a dual-boot or multiboot system, select the installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console.
4. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If you have not set a password for the admin account simply press enter
5. At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r > press enter. (Note there is a space between the letter k and the forward slash).
6. At the conclusion of the scan type exit > press enter.
7. Restart your computer.

Davee and Tech-geek
Thanks guys, tried both these discs and got the same response from the pc. The first screen shows ASUS stuff including recognizing the DVD drive. The first command-type text screen after trying to boot from the disc said:
Starting PC DOS
ATAPI IDE CD-ROM device driver version V 1.45 (04/22/1996)
Copyright MITSUMI ELECTRIC CO LTD 1994,1995, 1996
ERROR: unable to detect ATAPI IDE CD-ROM drive
ATAPI IDE CD-ROM device driver not loaded.
The next and final screen said:
Preparing to start your computer.
This may take a few minutes. Please wait...
Device driver not found: 'MSCD001'.
No valid CDROM device drivers selected.
Then there's some info on the mouse and then
Mouse driver installed successfully
A:\>
I tried the suggested commands but nothing happened.
