Answer

Hi Omer,

1.    Is it freezing when it tries to play a specific type of file? If so, what is the file format?

2.    Is media player freezing while initializing?

Step 1

Open media player and start playing the file from the menu.
Press Ctrl+O

Step 2

Open the Windows Media Player Library troubleshooter

If the troubleshooter doesn’t fix the issue, you may rebuild the Windows Media Player database and check if that fixes the issue.

To do this, follow these steps:

A.   Exit Windows Media Player.

B.   Click Start, type  %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player in the Start search box and hit Enter.

C.   Select all the files in the folder, and then click  Delete on the File menu.
Note: You do not have to delete the folders that are in this folder.

D.   Restart Windows Media Player.
Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

Step 3

A.   Clear the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

B.   Exit Windows Media Player.

C.   Click Start, type  %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, in the Start search box and hit Enter.

D.   Select the  Media Player folder, and then click  Delete on the File menu.

E.    Restart Windows Media Player.
Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database

Step 4

Check event viewer. The Event Log Service records application, security, and system events in Event Viewer. With the event logs in Event Viewer, you can obtain information about your hardware, software, and system components, and monitor security events on a local or remote computer.

What information appears in event logs (Event Viewer)?
