Have you tried booting up with WIndows DVD? Insert Windows DVD but don't press any key when asked. It helped me boot up the system. From there you can try fix it from cmd prompt (unfortunately I forgot what exactly I did back then but I'll search and post it back here). As for backup there's no need to worry. Use a Knoppix CD/USB memory stick and copy everything on some other drive. N360 syncs subscription with Norton account. In case you don't have one you can create one and insert the CD Key and that's it.
