Windows Media Player: wmploc.dll version 12.0.7600.16667 instead of 12.0.7600.16415

When I attempted to play a DVD using Windows Media Player a pop-up window appeared with the following

message:

The file wmploc.dll has a version number of 12.0.7600.16667 where 12.0.7600.16415 was expected.

Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled.

Do you want to install the Player from the Microsoft Web site?

Yes No

I clicked on 'yes' and could not find any information whatsoever on how to correct this problem.

Can someone please give me a solution?

Read this : (This applies to Windows 7 as well)

After updating WMP you an error from wmploc.dll about the version number being
incorrect - see this 1st
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/961047

Reboot your system.
Open cmd.exe as an administrator by selecting Start/All Programs/Accessories.
Right click on Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
Type in
unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMPVersion
Press enter.

After the above :

You may need to turn WMP off - REBOOT - then turn it back on.

Did you recently install another player?

Right Click Taskbar - Processes and see if WMPlayer.exe is already running hidden. If so end
process on it.

Do these to clear corruption and repair/replace damaged/missing system files.

Run DiskCleanup - Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup

Start - type in Search box - COMMAND find at top of list - RIGHT CLICK - RUN AS ADMIN

sfc /scannow
