Microphone Volume Level Automatically Resets to Zero

Recently, I've been having problems with the volume levels on my microphone. It doesn't matter whether I use my laptop's integrated mic or if I use an external one. Every time I try to adjust the volume, it automatically adjusts itself to zero and mutes itself, after a couple of seconds. I've also deselected "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" in my microphone properties. What's causing this to happen and is there a solution to this? Thank you for the help.

Hi,

Thank you for providing a detailed information on your issue. I appreciate your efforts towards resolving the issue.

However to help you better, I would like to know;

1. What is the make and model of your computer?
2. When was the last time it worked fine?
3. What is the status of Microphone in the device manager?

There could be a possibility that the settings are incorrect or could be faulty or the audio driver.

Let’s try these methods below and check if it helps

Method 1: Run audio troubleshooter

You might be able to solve some problems by running a troubleshooter that will automatically fix some common issues with audio.

Open the Playing Audio troubleshooter

4. Highlight the microphone and then choose "Set as Default Device".
5. Click Apply and OK.

Step 2: Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled

Make sure that the Microphone is not disabled. Follow the steps given to check that:
1. Right click on the volume icon and select “Recording devices”.

Method 4: Uninstall and reinstall the audio drivers

I would also suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the latest audio drivers from the Manufacturer website.

Uninstall the driver from Device Manager :

  1. Press Windows key + R on the keyboard
  2. In run window type devmgmt.msc
  3. Locate Mice and other pointing devices and expand the same
