Desktop Background does not fit full screen

original title: Picture size

My pcture does not cover the entire display area.I show an indent of about 1 1/2" on each side.How do enlarge the picture?

        Thank you for your answers.Let me clarify my situation.I am dealing with a new laptop Toshiba computer.I can't say this condition has existed from the beginng.The picture I am looking at right now shows a black blank strip 1 1/2" wide on either side.My screen resolution is set at 1024X768.Wher do I go now?

Please answer the questions posted earlier for better understanding of the issue.
 
1. Are we looking at desktop background picture?
 
It could well the size of the picture itself is such that it accommodates only that much space on the screen.
 
Edit the picture to enlarge it if possible. Or stretch it to fit the screen if the issue is pertaining to desktop wallpaper.

In addition to Ken Blake's question, I have few more to questions ask.
 
1. On which application(s) does the picture not cover the entire display?
 
There could be a possibility that the picture size could be small.
2. Have you tried opening the issue picture using different applications?
 
If so, does the issue persist?
 
Also try opening the picture on a different computer.
 
3. Did you download the picture from the website?
 
4. Are you referring to picture not covering the entire area on a secondary monitor?

5. Are you trying to set the picture as desktop background?
 
6. Lastly, like Ken pointed out, have you downloaded and installed the correct Windows 7 drivers for your video card from the manufacturer's website?
