System Restore Error code 0x81000203 after updating W10

How to perfect the Restore to enable me to restore to prior to update point?

After W10 updates, many issues occurred. Can I restore to previous Window version?

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community. Let me assist you.

I understand you are unable to perform System restore on your Windows 10 computer. This might be due to a corruption in the restore service. I suggest you to check the service which helps you perform a System restore.

Method 1: Check the Volume Shadow Copy Service.

Check the Volume shadow copy service in services window. To check follow these steps:

  1. Type “Services” in the search box.

  2. Right Click on Services and “Run it as an Administrator”.

  3. Check for “Volume Shadow Copy” Service.

  4. Set the status to “Started” and Startup type to “Automatic”.

Also check the dependency services that are required for Volume Shadows Copy Service to run.

To check that double click on the service and click on the Dependency tab.

If the issue persists, you may try disabling the antivirus program on the computer to check if it helps.

Method 2: Disable security software on the system.

Disable Antivirus and security-related products, if you have any Antivirus installed for (Free) uninstall it, if not then disable the Antivirus, try again to update and check if issue is resolved.

Disclaimer: Antivirus software helps protecting your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software and\or troubleshoot any pertinent issue, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to malware attacks

Also be informed, you cannot restore back to your previous operating system using System restore. Although you have a roll back option within 30 days of upgrade to Windows 10. Refer the section, Go back to the previous version of Windows.

The System Restore feature only restores the current Windows version to an earlier date of the same version, it does not roll back to an older Windows version.

Back up your user files before changing to an older Windows version so that you don't lose them.

If you are within 30 days of first installing Windows 10 you might be able to use the "Rollback" function that was included in Settings on the Update page to go back to your previous Windows version. If there is no RollBack option listed there anymore, or if a major Windows 10 update has been installed during the 30 days, you might have to resort to re-installing the original OS from whatever Windows installation media you own for that computer.

Hi

I have tried above except method 2 as I am concerned to disable the protection. No rollback found. Not successful at all to resolve my issue and more issues.

My desktop is Acer z5801. I am a Senior Citizen and a layman however I am interested to learn from the troubleshoot and all your help. Please bear with me if the jargon I used or explained below are not clear and long winded or ask silly questions.

I think it was originally caused by the default to Temp User profile which I discovered when I realised my defaults folders such as 'Documents' are all empty. Several Temp Users were found. I goggled & realised many users like me faced this MS problem. AVG won't help, they said is MS problem.

Some things I did based on goggled sources & Youtube:-

- deleted the .bak user and later deleted all Temp Users but when I login again new Temp Users were created.

- deleted the user profile I think caused the problem leaving behind only the build Administrator profile and changed the password. This is **** when I login with new password it said is incorrect. Tried previous pw - won't work also. Reset password wizard prompt requires me to insert external device which I do not have.

Goggled and tried few times booting with USB method with guide from pogostick.net website - no luck.

Now I am Hang. HELP HELP! Hope I don't need to throw away my desktop.

Thank you.
