Windows 10 updgrade left Lenovo Yoga 2 with silent speakers!

Please Help!

I upgraded to Win 10 and now have a pretty much silent Lenovo - I can hear using the earphone jack but after puling that out and trying the speakers (even with sound at 100% on computer and video) everything is silent.

I am not a computer whizz, so please go slow & clear with any help you can offer!

Thank you in advance :)

Hi Suzielou,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

A quick question before we proceed.
-Did you try to plugin speakers to other computer and check?

To make sure audio driver working fine please type Sound in search box. Click on Sound.

Now window will pop up check speaker icon below Playback tab, check for green check mark.

If green check mark is there that means there is something wrong with speakers. If it is not green check mark then follow the methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

  1. Type Troubleshooting in search box and open it.
  2. Click on Troubleshoot audio playback.
  3. Follow the instruction.

Method 2: If issue persists try to un-install and install latest audio driver and check if it helps. To uninstall driver follow below steps.

  1. Press Windows + X, click on Device Manager.
  2. Expand Sound, video and game controller, right click on device and click Uninstall.
  3. Restart the computer.

Once completed, restart your computer. Your network adapter Drivers will automatically install. You may also logon to the computer manufacturer website and download the latest drivers and get it installed.

Try the above steps and let us know the status of the issue for further assistance. Feel free to contact us, we will be glad to help you.

Thank you.

Thank you so much Vardhaman!

I followed all steps in order as the first did not resolve the situation...right to the end...undeterred this is what I did (hopefully it will help others)

1) Followed all of your instructions

2) Checked Smart Audio (control panel/hardware & sound) audio director (3rd tab on bottom) was switched to 'Multi stream' and tested it...I HEARD TEST SOUND *BUT* still no sound from video media

3) Went into Sound/playback - found I now had headphones on the list with a green tick. Tested the speakers bit and again heard the test, but still no sound from video media

4) Returned to sound/playback to see the headphones had a green tick, but not speakers - sorted that, tested, went to video media and HEARD THE VIDEO!

I have no idea which bit of all that did it, but your help got me sound back, and I thank you most heartedly for that!

Hope this thread helps someone else!

:)
