Parameter "/root" of explorer.exe not working anymore?

Hi Folks.

I used to call

explorer.exe /e,/root,%myfolder%

to open an explorer-window to "myfolder" with a navigation panel starting with "myfolder", i.e. without all of the parent folders up to "This PC".

Since update 1803 the parameter "/root" is completely ignored. Is there way to get this working again?

More information:

  1. This acutally did work some time ago. I am not sure when it stopped, maybe it already did not work in build 1709.
  2. %myfolder% is a valid location. The command mentioned above takes me to the right location, but it omits the /root switch.
  3. I am using this in shortcuts and via CLI.

Run it like this...

explorer.exe /e,/%myfolder%

Does that work?
I just tried it and it takes me to the documents folder.

If you just go to search and type documents it opens up your documents folder

No, that does not help.

First of all, my question was about the "\root"-parameter and by simply leaving that paramter out, we are not going to get anywhere...

Besides: Adding a slash (i.e. / ) in front of the folder, like

explorer.exe /e,/C:\Windows

you end up in the documents folder, because that is the folder explorer.exe opens, if you enter a invalid or non-existent folder...

Yes i did actually read your question and I don't even have 1803 build and I can't get what you are doing to work on my machine.
So not sure how you got it to work in the first place.
I can get it to open the folder but then in the left hand side i still see all the folders including This PC.
Your stating you don't see all those folders?

It still works, provided you give it a valid location. You probably created your own variable %MyFolder% which got lost along the way. Much better to use standard variables.

explorer.exe /e,/root,%UserProfile%

%myfolder% is a valid location.

In fact, I did not use any variables at all. Just did not want to bother anybody here with details like "C:\SomeParentFolder\This_Is_The_Folder_Were_I_Store_My_Data" ;-)

What is the value of %myfolder%?

As I pointed out, the problem is not %myfolder% but the /root switch.

But if you realy need it, specific example: %myfolder% is "D:\Archive\Study\PhDThesis" for instance.
