BSOD re: iaStorAV.sys

Hi,

I have recently replaced an HDD with a Samsung SSD on my Alienware MX14 R2 laptop.  Additionally, had Windows 7 (64) and upgraded to Windows 10 right after installing the new SSD.  The laptop also came with an Intel 64GB cache MSATA.  I notice on startup now that the computer can see the cache but also tells me it is disabled (RAID0).  Then, for the last few days, on startup I'm getting BSOD with the following message:  SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED (iaStorAV.sys).  Can anyone assist?  From research on similar BSOD issues with Windows 8/8.1, it seems it may be a driver/registry problem.   However, I could not find anything specific to Windows 10.  For Windows 8/8.1, it seemed to be either NVidia driver problems or problems with the Intel Rapid Storage drivers.  Again, I would like to get info related specifically to Windows 10 if possible.

I'll be grateful for any help.  Thanks so much!

Hi,

Sorry to hear about the inconvenience caused.

This issue might be caused due to application conflict, driver conflict or hardware compatibility.

We would suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps:

Method 1: Clean boot

Putting your system in Clean Boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue. You need to follow the steps from the article mentioned below to perform a Clean Boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After troubleshooting, refer to this section "How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting"

Method 2: Hardware clean boot

We would also suggest you to disable the hardware of your computer and check if it helps.

  • From the desktop press Windows flag key +R and type devmgmt.msc and click ok.
  • This will open device manager.
  • Now disable all the hardware other than mouse and keyboard and check the problem.

IF your computer works fine, try to enable each hardware one after the other and check which hardware is causing he problem.

Hope this information helps, for further assistance please reply.

I'm still having this issue. As I said in my original post, I had just done a clean install. Has MS come up with a real fix for this BSOD specific issue yet?

It's an "Intel Matrix Storage Driver" issue, something is messing up the normal process of loading it during startup... I just try to update the drivers and make sure you have other Intel drivers installed like the Intel Matrix RAID Storage Driver. Sometimes some computers use that second mentioned driver when they have more than one storage media attached, allowing the processor to know where and access the information better. That is my knowledge of this file related scenario.
