How to turn off the notifications for the News app

<Original title: Deactivating push notification for News app>

Even with the News app not open on my computer, I receive push notifications generated from the News app.  I'm not interested in seeing any push notifications from the News app, but I am unsure as to where, how, or even if the pushes from the app can be turned off.  Is there a way to turn off pushes from a specific app such as News?
