Skype versions - 12 v 8

Hi

The version of Skype I have downloaded from the app store is 12.13.274.0

But the latest version for Windows is mentioned to be Skype 8.14.0.10.

This looks like a much more user-friendly version.

How do I get that version onto my Windows 10 PC?

Answer: What you have downloaded from the Microsoft/Windows Store is the latest version of Skype for Windows 10, the application built-in especially for Windows 10 users. See this link for the latest updates regarding Skype for Windows 10.

Version 8.14.0.10 is the latest released version of the new Skype on Desktop, Mac and Linux.

Question: How do I get that version onto my Windows 10 PC?

Answer: Note that the new Skype isn't designed for Windows 10 users running on Anniversary Update and higher. Users have to meet the following system requirements to download and install the new Skype:

  • Windows 10 Version 1507, or version 1511
  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 7 (32-bit and 64 bit versions supported)
