Intermittently not receiving notifications/messages

For the past couple of months, every so often, Skype will not notify me that I have received a message. It is worth noting that use Skype for Mac on my laptop and on my iPhone. Both are up to date and have notifications enabled properly. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I even have Skype Preview in use on my laptop. I can tell I do not receive some messages because I'll check a conversation every so often, and I can see that my message has been read, but no message has been sent back. Then I'll check skype on the web and there, a message will finally come, often marked at an earlier time. For example, my message will have been read at 10:00 and my friend will immediately send me a message, but I will not receive a notification of it until I exit and open it again, often later, as I have not been informed of an incoming message. When I exit and re-enter Skype on my laptop, the new message now appears.

I will note that this issue is intermittent, so it doesn't always happen, but it has been happening much more lately. I don't know what to do.

Hi Jasmine! My name is Therese, an Independent Advisor.

Yes. I've been reading similar posts here in the community people reporting the same problem. Though, I am not certain if this is a bug or just a temporary issue, yet I cannot confirm it 100% as I don't directly work for Microsoft.

The only thing you can do to re-establish the connection to the chat server is to sign in to Skype for Web https://web.skype.com/

I highly recommend you to report this through the application by sending a feedback. In Skype, click the 3 dots (...) > Help & Feedback > Give feedback

Thank you Therese. Unfortunately, I have done this several times, with no response.

I did have contact with someone in Microsoft Customer Service about a month or so ago, but he closed out the case as the issue hadn't occurred in a week. However, I tried to contact as soon as it happened again, even attaching logs and screenshots.

I apologize for the inconvenience. As a Skype user myself, I can understand the frustration because I am also experiencing the same issue. There's nothing much we can do, but to wait until Microsoft fixes this bug.

I certainly wish I had better news...

It's absolutely shameful that MS has yet to acknowledge this in any place that I've seen.

It first flared up around 4 months ago and was also reported back then. It's fundamental to the product, but not a word from MS.

Just for the record, same issue here. Notifications intermittently not coming through. Even the messages THEMSELVES sometimes not showing up until hours later, perhaps after a restart. (Skype-8.59.0.77, on Mac, as well as iPhone & Android, too.)

Same issue here. I don't receive notifications on iOS or MacOS, despite ensuring notifications are enabled, uninstalling/reinstalling, etc.

To me, it seems that notifications don't appear if the app hasn't been opened in a while. If it's been opened recently, I seem to be getting notifications, but I can't confirm that for sure.

And again, just now!

An hour ago several messages were coming in, without them showing up in Skype/desktop/Mac. Nothing displayed, no alerts, nothing. I just happened to actively check on my old Android mobile, just to make sure, and there were the messages! From an hour ago! But still not on the desktop. Too late now to reply (because of time zone differences).

For the record, TWO mobiles (the Android & an iPhone) had made no alert sounds, and indicated no waiting messages. Until I actively started digging for potentially missed messages.

The correct conversation window was up on all three devices.
Skype on Mac desktop in the background, but visible.

Mobiles were turned off.
But all set to the same conversation.
Still, no notifications.

Sometimes the exact same scenario does work as it should.
Then at other times, for no discernable reason, no notifications at all.

Sometimes, even, maybe ONE out of the three devices gives a notification sound, but not the other two.

I also just a couple days ago updated Skype on the desktop to the most current version (8.61.0.95), for the exact reason described above, hoping that would fix it. Yesterday everything appeared to be functioning properly as expected. But now today, everything is out of whack again.

Why?

It's been happening to me as well.  For a while now.  I have Skype installed on 3 devices (macOS/iOS) and the only way I have to check if I have a new message is to either go to web.skype.com or to log on my Outlook email via web.  If there's a new message there is a number under the S for Skype:

I don't see the convenience of that since users would have to be checking constantly . . .

I've tried removing and re adding the app for iOS and it works for a while but after some time it starts happening again . . .
