Is there a way to generate QR code in a Word document from an Excel file mail merge?

I have variable data in an Excel file that i normally do a mail merge into Word for formatted printing; is there a way to generate QR codes in word for a specific portion of the merged data?

This doesn't work in Word 2010, but there are two new field types in Word 2013 that can generate QR codes. The field keywords are DisplayBarcode and MergeBarcode, and the documentation pages are at
