Completely Remove Skype for Business

I am having no trouble uninstalling Skype for Business from Add/Remove programs. I'm fine there. I need the "complete removal" guide that cleans up the registry, removes cache folders, account/sign-in information, etc. I have a few clients that I believe just need a clean start and would like to know how to accomplish this.

Note: It made me select Office 365, but I'm not using that. Our install is on-premises (not that it should make a difference).

Hi Stephen,

If you want to delete the sign in info, on the Skype for Business sign in screen, click Delete my sign-in info. In the window that appears, click Yes.

To delete the cached folder, if you have Skype for business 2016 then navigate to C:\Users\<UserName>AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Lync , here you’ll see sip_username, you may delete this folder.

Delete any Skype entries from the Registry- but beware: serious problems might occur if you modify the Registry incorrectly, so make sure you follow these steps carefully. To be safe, it's a good idea to back up your Registry before making any changes.

  1. Press the Windows and R keys at the same time, then type regedit in the Run dialog and click OK. The Registry Editor is displayed.
  2. Click Edit > Find.
  3. Type Skype into the Find box and click Find Next.
  4. Use right-click to delete all the search results (there can be up to 50).

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Edit at your own risk.

Additionally, may I know what exactly are you trying to do? Are you getting sign in issue?

Thanks,

Neha
