Outlook 2016 Sounds Changed at Last Build Update

The last Office 2016 build update right about 7/5/17 did something to change the sounds in Outlook, running Windows 10.  In my case it changed the delete email sound to clear.wav which is a very annoying and unacceptable sound.  I searched the web and tried everything I found and I could not get rid of or change this sound.  Only thing that worked was to turn off all Office Sounds for all Office applications by going to Excel/options/advanced/general and uncheck the "Provide feedback with sound" box.  Just to note the clear.wav sound is the default sound when clearing a cell in Excel.

To prove my point I restored my complete C drive using Acronis True Image to one saved before the update.  The annoying clear.wav sound was gone.  I went to Outlook and manually updated to the latest Build of Office 2016.  The clear.wav sound came back.  I restored my complete hard drive a second time and immediately went into Outlook 2016 and turned off automatic updates.  It's been fine since.

I am running:

Microsoft Office Home and Business 2016

Version 1705 (Build 8201.2102 Click to Run)

Windows 10 Pro

Version 1703

OS Build 15063.483

Something in the latest Office 2016 build update changed the office sounds.  Turning off automatic updates and/or all sounds is not a solution.

I COMPLETELY AGREE!!!

Sorry for shouting, but this has been plaguing me for weeks. I HATE this sound and there is no place to turn it off. Who is the MORON at Microsoft that implemented this?

There must be someone in Microsoft that knows the answer and can help up get rid of this annoying sound.  MS -- speak up!

I was able to turn off the sound by deselecting the "Provide feedback with sound" option in Excel (File - Options - Ease of Access).  This also turns off the sounds in Excel (and I imagine all office apps) which I don't like.  We should be able to customize the sounds for each individual Office application.

The "Ease of Use" option exists in Outlook 2016, also.  Turning it off, or changing the Sound Scheme listed in "Ease of Use" also turns off the annoying Delete sound (identical to clear.wav) in Outlook 2016.

1. In Outlook, select the File tab

2. Select the Options link from the side menu.

3. Select "Ease of Use" from the Options side menu.

4. To remove all sounds, uncheck the box labeled "Provide Feedback with Sound."

5. Optionally, on the same page, you can change the Sound Scheme from "Classic" to "Modern," which has much less annoying sounds than the old Office 97 scheme.

Just installed Office 2016 and have the same issue with the annoying delete sound.  However, there is no "Ease of Use" option in Outlook.  There is an "Ease of ACCESS" option in other Office products (Word, Excel, etc.) that does have the "Provide Feedback with Sound" checkbox but no option to select a sound scheme.

Tony_George - I wish I could change the sound scheme.  The problem is, it does not show up in the Ease of Access Option.  See screen cap:

Thanks

I do not have an "Ease of Access" in any of my Office 16 products.  I also do not have option to change the scheme to change the delete sound, which is the "clear.wav" sound.

The only option is to either turn on or turn off all sounds in all Office products by unchecking the "play a sound" box in Excel.

Surely Microsoft can figure out a way to fix this, it started with an update they did in early July 17 and it is still not fixed.  The update inactivated for former Office sounds we used in "sounds.exe" and embedded them somewhere inside Office with no option to change them.

Is it really that difficult to allow us to leave the Office sounds on and just change the extremely annoying delete sound?

Microsoft can you please fix at the next Office update?

Per Microsoft:

NOTE: As of July, 2017, this add-in is no longer supported and is not required to enable feedback with sound. The "Provide feedback with sound" setting can now be enabled within Word 2016, Excel 2016, PowerPoint 2016, and Outlook 2016 for Widows Desktop. Please visit our Office Sounds support page (listed in the links below) for more information about how to enable sounds in these apps.

You can install these sounds to receive audio feedback that confirms your actions as you work in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word for Windows Desktop. For example, you will hear sounds when you:

  • Paste or delete content
  • Are autocorrected
  • Send e-mail
  • Open the task pane

Well now this is strange.  I went to Excel and sure enough, there was Ease of Access option WITH the sound scheme drop down.  Changed the setting from Classic to Modern, went back to Outlook, and there it was.  Interesting.   I was able to change the sound (not much better but a little!).  I wish I could change the sound from clear.wav when deleting individual emails...

Is there any way to change the individual sounds within a scheme?
