Folder pane width can't be change

Hello,

I was able to slide the folder pane to the left, making it smaller but it doesn't work anymore in the new version of outlook, and the space between the folder pane and the message list suddenly looked a lot wider. Before, the unread count was always much closer to the folder names, and much of the intervening space wasn't there. I don't want to minimize the pane but only want to be able to customize the width of the pane as I was able to before. Could you please help me with this issue?

Thank you in advance,

Regards,

Maryam

Funny enough, in the meantime, I did not do anything but restarting that laptop where I could still make the folder pane smaller. Result: I could not make it smaller anymore, and the search box had moved to the title bar. Curious enough, I did another restart, and now I still cannot narrow the folder pane, but the search bar moved back to the old position. There was no any office update today.

Maryam, Sim,

The limitation on minimizing the folder pane width appears to be expected design.  The Outlook MVPs and others have also raised the concern.  I'm sharing this feedback to the Outlook Team and will see if there are any plans to change it.  When I get any updates I will post back.

We have customers report this same issue, the minimum width of the folder list seems to be set. This is fine on larger screens, but on smaller laptop screens with lower resolution our clients are telling us they want to adjust the folder panel width smaller than it will now allow.. This seems to be since an update in April some time.

I agree.  It needs to go back to how Outlook 2013 did it.  I only like to see the first couple of letters in each folder.  I don't need to see them all.  All the developers should be required to only use 13" laptops!!!

Thanks for the feedback.  I have shared this with the Outlook Team.  From what I understand there is work planned to re-enable reducing the width.  When I get a future build with those changes I'll post back.

Here is the current fix for this -

Thank goodness someone was willing to help. M$ only served to waste my time while simultaneously enraging me.

This will also put the Search back in a non-ridiculous spot.

This deletion of registry keys is not a permanent fix, unfortunately. The sooner or later (sometimes even without a reboot, sometimes after one or more rebooots), the folder pane will be locked again.

It is also not a permanent fix regarding the search box (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/outlook-2019-missing-search-bar/5fa23c91-90f3-4a18-986d-fae1d6673335?page=19&rtAction=1590031934372&tm=1590032234492).

So, thanks to Gabriel for escalating that so quickly.

Correct... which is specifically why the forum post suggests creating a batch file to run as a workaround until Microsoft decides to fix this. Pretty sure an additional double-click to get this working is better than waiting on Microsoft for some, imo anyway...

What I *really* want is the ability to reduce the font of the folder names in the folder pane. Is there some reason why this is not supported?

AC,

Please vote up on Uservoice the changes you want to see.  This is where the Outlook Team reviews feedback for feature requests.  This Uservoice sounds similar but you might search and see if there is anything closer to your request, https://outlook.uservoice.com/forums/322590-outlook-for-windows-desktop-application/suggestions/37091449-folder-pane-density.

As far as folder pane width the Outlook Team is working to make some changes that should come out in the major update in late July.
