cheating

I want to know what you are all going to do about the cheat on xbox live.  I am in a clan that is about 60 strong and we are about to stop playing on xbox live and trade our stuff in on something that will have no cheaters.  Please do something we all like playing together and we don't want to stop playing together.  The new map packs are worse then the last ones on Call Of Duty: Black OPS,

If you think that someone is cheating report their gamercard and the XBL PET (Policy Enforcement Team) will determine if they should be punished or not based on your claims.

So your clan is going to stop playing ANY game system then? There are cheaters no matter where you go. It is all about how you handle them. On XBL you simply FILE A COMPLAINT via the tools on your console. Then from there the XBL PET will review the complaint and determine if any enforcement action is needed. Remember, enforcement action is NOT instant. Just like with real life crimes it takes time to investigate complaints.

Just an FYI, LAG and CAMPING are not cheating.

i'm with Temnotabot on this one.

where you gonna go? XBL is your best bet for getting the least amount of cheaters.

CoD has a huge community and because of that you'll run into cheaters more often. i would recommend a different game like battlefield but if CoD is your thing you'll have to deal or play private games.

Are you sure about that? I don't think that is true. Have you done research or is that just what you believe?

I still want to know exactly what the definition of "cheating" is. I created another somewhat similar thread and nobody seemed to be able to come to a consensus about it, seeing as how there is no clear-cut definition given by Microsoft.

I would have thought leaderboard boosting was cheating for sure (and as a result my report rating has gone down so much that individual players can literally text offensive racial slurs at me without being penalized upon my filing a complaint; real good system you have there Microsoft), but apparently the powers that be don't think that way.

What's sad is that we have to pay for this service and despite that fact, continuously have to deal with the rampant cheaters/hackers/modders/boosters on a daily basis. The integrity of Xbox Live is entirely lost to me now, it won't surprise me when I completely lose interest in online gaming as a result.
• Don't cheat in a game unless cheats have been deliberately enabled.
 • Don't modify or hack game content to create cheats.
 • Don't make unauthorized modifications to your account profile or its contents.
 • Don't intentionally play with someone who is using unauthorized software or methods to help inflate your game rank or gamerscore.
Pay careful attention to the wording of Unauthorized Software or Methods. Any of the above is Cheating in terms of The CoC. Boosting does not fall under any of this simply because someone allowing someone else to shoot them in their head is in the Game to begin with. It's not using any additional Software or Methods that can not be used straight out of the box, so to speak.

Bottom line, "Boosting" can mean many things to many people, it's generally frowned upon by the Community and it can be considered dirty or "cheap" but its not Cheating. If a Developer does not wish or "intend" Players to "boost" they would have Features in the Game to prevent it (ie Halo 3/ Halo Reach and others). If they don't, sorry they don't care if you (or anyone) think it's "unfair" or "cheating".

I'm specifically talking about leaderboard boosting. Allow people to boost achievements all they want, if they want to gain an achievement undeservedly and then think in the back of their mind that they actually accomplished something, then be my guest.

But killing an imaginary player which is in effect one's alternate account over and over again to gain leaderboard status, how is that not seen as an unfair advantage? Last time I checked, the majority of Xbox Live users have only one console.

If tomorrow Microsoft changed their opinions about leaderboard boosting, then even less people would have reason to defend it. As of now, I fail to see any justifiable rationalization for such ill-gotten gains.

I don't care if people are lame enough to cheat to get to the top of the leaderboards, what I do care about is when they mod so as to make the damn games unplayable.

If I see one more invincible flying nazi or cursed sure shot I think I will end up putting my foot through the xbox.
