Can't play Doom 3

I recently bought a copy of Doom 3 for Xbox, having seen it on the 'compatible list'. The game will not start, and it doesn't give any options to do anything. From the original post, the following questions are suggested;

 

What game are you trying to play?

Doom 3

Is it a disc or downloaded version?

Xbox original disc

What type of console are you using?

Normal XBox 360 (cream colour)

What size HDD are you using?

120Gb

What error code or message are you receiving?

Unable to play disc.

 

The disc works fine on my old original Xbox.

Hmm, this seems to be a new trend with the 120GB HDD.

Try downloading this:

support.xbox.com/.../system-updates.aspx

That's what I'm trying to do right now.

I tried the system update, as I'm online quite often it downloads updates as they arrive. Connecting to Xbox live this afternoon didn't show any new updates so I assume I have the latest one?

Most likely.

Downloading that most likely won't get you anywhere either, as it didn't work for me.

can i ask do u have the normal version or the limated version? - (limated had a tin and had other doom games on it.)

I know Doom 3 doesn't work in 60hz in the PAL regions or in the Japan NTSC region if that's any help.

I'm in the UK so it's PAL. How would I know whether I'm using 60hz though? I'm connected via VGA to a projector, I'm guessing TV refresh rates don't apply to VGA? Or is the VGA the cause of the problem?

DOOM 3 does work on 60hz, i have the game and played it through with no problems. i've got my setup on hdmi and works.( en.wikipedia.org/.../List_of_Xbox_games_compatible_with_Xbox_360 ) i would surgest trying hdmi or another type of cable 2 see if it works

I don't have HDMI, but I'll give it a go with composite.

OK, I've put it back to composite, and tried 50hz and 60hz and neither work.
