Xbox 360 repair / replace

Where would be the best place to get an xbox 360 repaired from? Are things like Microsoft repairs covered by good warranties? (more than 30/90 days) Would it be better to get a new xbox 360 / pre-owned?

I would also need a new HDD ideally 250 GB how much are these?, as my 20GB HDD dosn't hold enough data.

Would it be more cost effective to get a xbox 360 with 250GB HDD or repair and buy a 250 GB HDD? I was looking at around £150 budget.

Are the slim-lined 360's just as likely to get the RROD as the normal xbox 360?

Think you would be better off buying a new xbox , I would buy new and not chance a pre-owned xbox as you could be buying a whole heap of trouble

Get a new xbox. If you have to get it repaired get it repaired by MS as unofficial repairs can see your console flagged as tampered and eventually banned

The xclamp fix for the RRoD does not change how the console operates in the slightest, essentially it is just some new washers and thermal paste, so it is extremely unlikely that it would lead to a console ban.

The parts you need to buy in order to fix it yourself are extremely cheap. So I'd say give it a go and try to fix the console yourself, after all you've nothing to lose as the console doesn't work at the moment anyway.

Was informed a while ago that any unauthorised repairs are classed as tampering and could lead to a ban i got thet from the XBLPET team

It will only lead to a ban if you tell them about it. All you do with such a fix is reseat the heatsinks. There is nothing inside the system that would ever detect such a repair. Just don't modify the DVD drive or HDD. That's a big no no!

The main reason Microsoft get so pissy about it is because they lose the money you would pay from having them repair it.

I will state for the record it is in the TOS to not make any unauthorised repairs to the system or modify it in anyway. So if you do decide to fix it yourself then keep it to yourself and no one will ever know any better.

Oh and do not use any pennies, no matter what you read, ever!

How much are Microsoft Repairs are they going to be around £90?

amazon do the 250 GB HDD for £80 approx £0.32 per GB approx

so around £170 for a working xbox and enough storage to store game saves etc

Ive had a quick look on game and they do the slim xbox for £170 but they are out of stock

A new xbox seems to be the better option.

are there any other good bundle deals or good offers for an xbox slim 250gb?

Spend £5 on fix. Google is your friend. If it doesn't work for you then buy a new console.

[/quote]Which is part of why I am no longer an Ambassador. After all replacing the analogue sticks in your controller is technically system tampering, so I couldn't remain part of a program where I had to tell people that they had to spend £30 on a new controller rather than £5 on a new set of sticks.
Fixing the RRoD yourself doesn't change how the console operates in anyway. The reason Microsoft don't want you fixing it yourself? £5 vs. £62.
