When i try to reinstall the game, it asks for the product key. Where do i find it? Whats with all this hassle anyways?

Anyway, depending one where you bought the game from your answer may change. I assume it was a digital purchase through either steam or the Microsoft store? Id make sure you are properly logged into whichever service you purchased it under. Start with that and give as much detail on the result as possible if the problem persists.
As to the reason for the 'hassle'. If a game could be freely copied and played, a developer would only ever sell one copy of the game before it was spread over the internet. The game development, servers upkeep, employees wages etc, are dependant on the sales of the game being fair. DRM (digital right management) is one of the most common practices to protect against piracy.
