New Xbox 360 System Update Brings Expanded PayPal Functionality

I am happy to announce that, as a part of a new Xbox 360 System Update, we’re expanding our integration with PayPal to allow U.S. and international Xbox LIVE users to make purchases on their Xbox 360 consoles with their PayPal accounts.* Once you’ve linked your PayPal account to your Xbox LIVE account on Xbox.com, you’ll be off and running to use it as a billing option, allowing you to buy content such as Microsoft Points, Xbox LIVE Gold subscriptions and Games on Demand titles.

We are rolling out the Xbox 360 System Update gradually to all Xbox LIVE users starting today and throughout the next couple weeks to ensure a high quality deployment. Just like any other update to our service, you will know you’ve received it when you turn on your Xbox 360 console, connect to Xbox LIVE and receive a notification to download the update. It’s important to note that it may take a few days to make its way around the globe. Thanks for your patience if you don’t get it right away!

This particular update will also bring an auto-standby feature that places your console on standby if it’s idle for more than one hour, helping to reduce power consumption. This feature will be automatically enabled after you download the update. You can change this setting in the System Settings on your console.

Finally, thank you to all who participated in the preview program for this Xbox 360 System Update. Your contributions helped us prepare for the updated Xbox 360 disc format capability that comes with this release.

*PayPal functionality will not be available in the following Xbox LIVE regions: Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Hungary, India, Japan, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan

Ci sono le nuove misure per combattere i pirati, ma per me sono inutili piu' di quelle che non piacciano a te dato che io i giochi me li faccio comprare....

Diciamo il solito aggiornamento prevalentemente commerciale tra Microsoft e altre aziende principalmente come fu per Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Last FM a suo tempo.

L'aggiornamento per 1 GB in più sui dvd a me non dispiace, anche se in giro, sulla rete si parla di xbox incompatibili all'aggrionamento, però la microsoft le sostituirà gratuitamente...

Microsoft: il nuovo firmware non dà problemi su Xbox L'azienda di Redmond è intervenuta sulla questione dei problemi di lettura dei dischi su Xbox 360. La causa dell'inconveniente sarebbe un vecchio aggiornamento, che ha introdotto un nuovo algoritmo di lettura dei DVD. In ogni caso, nessun problema hardware o relativo al nuovo firmware.

Microsoft ha dichiarato che gli errori di lettura dei dischi su Xbox 360 non hanno niente a che fare con il nuovo firmware. L'azienda risponde così alle notizie che riportavano alcuni inconvenienti legati alla compatibilità con il formato di DVD XGD3, una delle funzioni introdotte con il nuovo update.

Il problema sembra infatti collegato a un aggiornamento software precedente, che avrebbe cambiato il modo in cui la console legge i dischi.

"Il nuovo firmware, che è stato testato in una beta pubblica, non è la causa di questo inconveniente", ha dichiarato Microsoft. "L'errore di lettura del disco è dovuto al cambiamento di un algoritmo di lettura che abbiamo introdotto in un aggiornamento precedente, e non è in nessun modo correlato a versioni vecchie o nuove di Xbox 360", specifica l'azienda.

In ogni caso Microsoft è già al lavoro per sostituire le console difettose, avvisando via mail gli utenti colpiti dall'inconveniente.

Nel frattempo è partita oggi la prima ondata di aggiornamenti, come riporta Major Nelson, il blog ufficiale dell'Xbox team. Fra le principali novità di questo nuovo firmware ricordiamo l'opzione per la nuova forma di pagamento online con PayPal, la compatibilità con i nuovi DVD XGD3 e l'introduzione di Kinect Avatar.

Un'altra novità è la funzione di auto-standby, che interverrà dopo un'ora d'inattività della console per ridurre il consumo energetico. L'opzione sarà abilitata automaticamente dopo l'installazione del nuovo firmware, ma sarà possibile disattivarla attraverso le impostazioni di sistema di Xbox 360.
