I can't install Media Player on Windows 8 Pro N

I've got 64 Bit Windows 8 Pro N and want to install Media Player.

I've downloaded the Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 8 from here

However, when I try and run the file it says the update isn't applicable to my computer! It's very frustrating!

How can I install Media Player in these circumstances?

Hi edamir,

Follow the steps below to confirm the Windows version and provide the system information:

Windows version:

  1. From the Start screen, type Command
  2. Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator
  3. At the prompt, type winver
  4. Post the complete version in this thread.

System information:

  1. From the Desktop, press Windows key + C
  2. Select Control Panel
  3. Select System
  4. Post the Windows edition in this thread.

Just to confirm, you downloaded and tried to install Windows6.2-KB2703761-x64.msu from the link you provided?

I tried this- but it seems that in order to have the priveledge of installing windows media player on my new windows 8 laptop- I need to pay a £99 upgrade fee? I always thought that it was free (well I've never had to pay for it before on my previous windows editions

Make sure that your OS version is correct and you are downloading the correct file.If both are correct then create another user account with administrative privileges and recheck the issue there.

In the mean time download and install VLC Player. It's free and supports more file formats.

Thanks for the VLC tip...

I find it amazing that an MVP is placed into a postion to recommend a non MS product..

MS needs to fix this.. what a pain for its customers..

Thanks again for the post!
