"Date Modified" Column Updates Files to Current Date Without Opening or Changing File

When using Windows Explorer in Windows 7, I find that some files have their "Date Modified" dates changed to the current date even though I have not opened them or made any modifications. Simply by clicking on the file in Explorer the date is changed. It is important to have these dates remain as the actual last modified date, and this seemingly automatic change is causing major headaches.

Any suggestions?

Answer

Hi,

Method 1: Go to safe mode

Start your computer in safe mode

Method 2: Perform Clean Boot

If safe mode helps, then you may as well perform clean boot to figure out the culprit program that’s causing this.

Note: Please ensure that the computer is set to start as usual by following the step 7 from the article.

Method 3: Perform Virus scan

To see if this is the work of virus, perform an intensive virus scan on your computer. Update your antivirus database before running the scan. If you don’t have antivirus installed, download and install Microsoft Security Essentials.
