Windows 10 Failed to install 0xC1900101 0x30017

• Disable (preferrably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before attempting the upgrade.
• Restart a few times and try again.
• Disable General USB Devices (example - Smart Card Reader). 
• If you are using a SCSI hard disk, make sure you have drivers available for your storage device on a thumdrive and it is connected. During Windows 10 setup, click the Custom Advanced Option and use the Load Driver command to load the appropriate driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and setup still fails, consider switching to a IDE based hard disk.
• Do a clean boot and try again.
• If you are upgrading using the .ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during setup, if you are connected by LAN (Ethernet) or Wi-Fi, disable both and attempt setup again. 
• If you are updating through Windows Update, when the download reaches 100% disconnect from the Internet LAN (Ethernet) or Wi-Fi and proceed with the installation.
• If that does not work, try using the .ISO file to upgrade if possible.
• If you are connected to a domain, switch to a local account
• If you have any external devices attached to the machine, disconnect them (example, gaming controllers, USB keys, external hard disk, printers, non-essential devices).

  If you are installing Windows 10 using Windows Update, try the following:

  1. Press Windows Key + X on the keyboard and then select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from the menu.

  2. Stop the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. To do this, type the following commands at a command prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

                             net stop wuauserv

                             net stop cryptSvc

                             net stop bits

                             net stop msiserver

  3. Now rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder. You can do this by typing the following commands in the Command Prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

                            ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

                            ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

  4. Now, let’s restart the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. Typethe following commands in the Command Prompt for this. Press the ENTER key after you type each command.

                          net start wuauserv

                          net start cryptSvc

                          net start bits

                          net start msiserver

  5. Type Exit in the Command Prompt to close it and then restart the computer.

Not sure if this will help but I did 4 attempted updates thru windows update and 1 with the Windows 10 Media Creation tool. All Failed during the first BOOT. I was able to choose rollback to previous version in the recovery options that came up when I used the Media Creation Tool and it opened back in windows 8.1.

At that point I opened C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.

At the bottom of all the folders was a text file named Reporting Events.

I opened that file and went all the way to the last entries.

The last 3 were updating something for:

  1. Microsoft Solitaire

  2. Note

  3. Last was an entry relating to a TV tuner card that was part of my original HP from (Vista).

      I had already upgraded this computer to 7 years back, then 8 and lastly 8.1. And all was working fine.

      (note! I had not used that TV card since Vista so never even thought about it even though it was still plugged      into the motherboard)

This made me think that this might be the issue as there are not current drivers for that card. I removed it and BINGO! it updated to Win 10 without issue. This seems to point to the error being some hardware device driver as the cause.

All that said, if you can rollback after you get the error and open in previous version see if that log file is there in your version and if it gives you any clue to the culprit.

did everthing not work :/ help or gave us a serial key to can install it in another computer at least ;/

were you able to roll back into your older version of windows from the recovery options after it failed?

if so try finding that Reporting Events log at the bottom of the c:windows\SoftwareDistribution folder.

That looks like it holds every step of the update process. The last entry in that log should refer to the last operation it was doing when it failed. (check the time stamp in the log to the time it failed and it should be the same).

It wont tell you how to fix it but it may give you a hint to what the issue is to see if you can find drivers for whatever is causing it to crash. As I stated above in another reply, my log showed an old TV card as the last entry and as there were no drivers for it I took it out out of the computer and the update went thru fine.

This is the solution that worked for me as well as all the other users who tried it:( just done upgrading my Alienware Aurora R3)

For the Aurora R3, it is a outdated Bios issue (Dell no longer supports the BIOS, thus issue with win 10 upgrade), every time windows upgrade does its soft restart, it will hang. 

What you need to do is to "babysit" the upgrade: hard reboot the PC whenever windows upgrade does its soft restart(when you see the alien head Bios screen come up, just shut your PC down manually, then power back up, it will get you pass the error and completed the upgrade, i.e my Aurora R3 did its windows upgrade soft restart @ 30% after it is done copy file and 75% after the program/driver install. 

After the window upgraded to win 10, and you need to download/run 2 file from Dell website, 1 is for Renesas Integrated USB 3.0, v.2.0.4.0, A00, the other is for Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility, v.9.2.0.1015, A00, to remedy the soft restart issue  with Windows 10.
