Hi,

I have the exact same problem, I have just been onto Microsoft live chat and spoken to a Rajendra, absolutely useless, kept on saying it had installed when the report clearly says it had failed, said it was my choice to keep looking at this, obviously did not have a clue how to resolve the matter, the mind boggles how Microsoft employ people like this.

They charge you way over £100 for something that doesn't even work properly, maybe its time to try Ubuntu again!

I get this error every time I fire up the computer.

I will work through the above steps and see if that resolves it, maybe a clean install is the answer.

If you are using discrete graphics, uninstall Intel audio video drivers and related apps. Or hook your display device to intel

Integrated graphics, but enable it in BIOS first.

Problem to instal Windows update 9NCGJX5QLP9M-AppUp.IntelMediaSDKDFP

Will failure if Windows 10 defender ransomware protection is turn on during the configuration and operating process this will also cause on board graphic application engine to failure after a while your screen will go black for unexplained number of seconds then reappear.

you will find the IGFX status not started under device management for your graphic on board chipset it related to the intel graphic control panel software engine.

if your uninstalled intel graphic control panel did not turn off ransomware protection restart your computer the next time you go to reinstall the graphic drivers you will get installation error requiring you to reinstall the software again this will keep occurring until Windows defender ransomware protection is turned off.

it apply to all third party software installation and configuration turn off ransomware protection under Windows defender restart your computer then install your graphic drivers and updates. then create system restore point reapply the Windows 10 defender ransomware protection by turning it on restart your computer wait for all icons to appear on screen then check your graphic is work and test it by playing heavy demanding computer game or application that requires graphic interaction if successful you should not get any black screens during usage and IGFX status should be started.

if your using Nvidia software  you will notice issue with uninstalling previous software during trying to install the updated NVidia software just turn off  ransomware protection under Windows defender until you have configured Nvidia experience windows where the setting are then restart computer then reapply ransomware protection under Windows defender by turning it on.

Sometime you will get that message too if Windows defender is doing one of its three daily scans in the back ground. root check and its locked specific folder to which the file is stored nothing you can do in that instance other than to wait for the defender to conduct its scan and release the file for installation and configuration.

Please note it has nothing to do with Windows update failure its to do with Windows defender ransomware protection and or the timing of the Windows defender root checking scans which is three check a day of critical files.

Never try the steps above they are completely useless and do more damage than they are worth and cost money in the end.

Instead read the message and go to Security and maintence to see why its faulting and which actual files is causing it then look at the time and date its happening.

then back track any installation and configuration your made around in the days before and after note any time your had any security software turned on or off or running such as anti-virus like Norton's, trend micro these are the usual reason why you get installation, configuration and operation issue with device drives and or software applications.

Windows 10 updates issue usually caused by Windows defender ramsonware protection being turned on or doing back ground root scans which is conducted 3 times a day.

Occasional you can get errors too cause of Windows indexing this is usually not long after your start your computer and when it is laying idle and unused.

and for sure will get system error if you get a interruption to your internet service while you are updating your system via any internet connection.

overall forget doing these steps blow cause they actually interlink with other services and if they do not start at the same time your computer will develop further problems and eventful wont start up and your will get that dread blue screen of death.

I did in two stages:

1:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Download the latest DCH driver.

2. Disconnect your unit from the Internet to prevent Windows* Updates from installing any other driver.

3. Uninstall the DCH driver and the Intel® Graphics Control Panel from Control Panel > Programs and Features.

4. Restart the computer.

5. Make sure the 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter' is listed under Windows* Device Manager > Video adapters. If not, repeat steps 2 to 4.

6. If the adapter continues to be listed as ‘Intel HD Graphics’, and no other Intel® Graphics driver is listed under 'Programs and Features' for removal, then it means Windows* has switched to a previously installed Legacy driver. At this point, we can remove Legacy drivers from Device Manager:

6.1.1 Right-click on 'Intel HD Graphics' or similar, and select 'Uninstall Device'

6.1.2 In the pop-up window make sure 'Delete the driver software for this device' is checked.

6.1.3 Click on 'Uninstall'.

6.1.4 Restart. (Repeat steps 6.1.1 through 6.1.4 until the device gets listed as 'Microsoft Basic Display Adapter')

7. Install the DCH driver that was downloaded on step 1.

8. Restart the computer.

9. Enable your Internet connection.

10. Download the Intel Graphics Control Panel from the MS Store.
