Problem with CS:GO server connection after update

I recently updated my Windows PC from 1803 to 1903, and since the update I have not been able to connect to any CS:GO game servers.  I always get an error saying “Failed to find offical servers”, “Failed to connect to match”, “Connection failed”, or “Could not connect to matchmaking servers”.  Before the update, I never had an issue.

I have tried the following:

Full and partial disabling of firewall

Connecting to different networks

Uninstalling and reinstalling the game

”Flushing DNS” with command prompt

Various other methods on the steam forums (e.g. adding “-tcp” to the steam shortcut)

None have worked and the issue is still exactly the same.

I have no issues with standard internet browsing

Do I need to go back to Windows 1803 or is there a fix for this?

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues while playing Counter Strike Global Offensive after performing updates on your PC.

I appreciate your efforts in trying to fix the issue by performing certain troubleshooting steps.

I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and see if that helps.

Method 1:

Try booting the PC into Safe Mode with Networking and see if you are able to play the game. Safe Mode with Networking adds the network drivers and services you'll need to access the Internet and other computers on your network. Refer the article Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10

If you are able to play the game in Safe Mode with Networking, perform Clean Boot being in Safe Mode environment and see if you are able to play the game. Refer the article How to perform a clean boot in Windows.

Performing a clean boot will start the computer with minimal set of drivers and programs, to determine whether a background program is causing the issue. Some of the Startup programs will not load after performing a clean boot on the computer. However, that functionality will return when you reset the computer to start normally after finishing the troubleshooting.

If the game runs fine then refer the section How to determine what is causing the problem after you do a clean boot from the article to determine the exact issue.

Note: Please refer the section Reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting to boot the computer in to normal mode after troubleshooting.

Method 2:

Delete the Appcache folder from the Steam Root and see if the issue persists.

  1. Close Steam app completely and open File Explorer by pressing Windows + E key together.

  2. Now click on This PC on the left hand pane.

  3. Now open the drive on which Windows is installed.

  4. Double-click on Program Files or Program Files (x86) folder and search for Steam folder.

  5. Right click on the Appcache folder and click on Delete.

  6. Restart Steam.
