Problem with "eGalaxTouch" driver update on an Asus notebook

I have an Asus U38N which I upgraded without major problems from Win 8.1 to Win 10. However, I am having problems with the automatic updates, which are updating drivers too.

Yesterday, the "ELAN driver update for ELAN Input Device" made useless the original Asus Smart Gesture (which was working fine). Today, the "eGalaxTouch - Other hardware - USB Touchscreen Controller(7907)" update has wrongly identified my touchscreen as a mouse, and on the system page my notebook went from "Full Windows Touch Support with 5 Touch Points" to "No Pen or Touch Input is available for this Display". With this change, I lost some touch features.

If I rollback the "eGalaxTouch" driver to the previous version (using Device Manager), the touchscreen works again. However, as the updates are automatic, soon it's installed again and again some touch features don't work.

How can I solve this?

And can someone explain why drivers updates are automatic with Windows 10, and as showed by this example, create problems where they didn't exist?

Hi Carlos,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I understand that touch pad is not working properly after automatic updates are installed.

Please follow the below steps to resolve the issue.

Method 1: Run Hardware and Device Troubleshooter

  1. Press Windows Key + R, type Control Panel.
  2. Type Troubleshooting in the search bar, click on Troubleshooting.
  3. Click on Hardware and Sound, click on Hardware and Devices.
  4. Follow the steps from the wizard to run the Troubleshooter.

If the issue still persist refer to the method 2 and check if it helps.

Method 2: Install all available Windows updates, including Optional updates along with that

I would also suggest you to install latest chipset drivers by downloading from the computer manufacturer’s website and check if it resolves the issues.

Hope these information helps, please get back to us for future support, we’ll be glad to assist you further.

Thank you.

It didn't work, and as I had mentioned, everything was running smoothly before a specific driver update provided by Windows Update on August 5 (the "eGalaxTouch - Other hardware - USB Touchscreen Controller(7907)" driver, which identified my touchscreen as a mouse), not all automatic updates in general as your reply suggests; and the problem was with my computer's touchscreen, not my computer's touch pad as you wrote. The problem is that Windows Update installed an update that "thought" exactly like you: that my touchscreen is a touchpad/mouse!

Even if your solution had worked, I truly can't understand why Microsoft is demanding users to go through troubleshooters to fix something that was working perfectly before with its automatic and mandatory updates including drivers updates . I truly prefer to update drivers through the manufacturer's website. With the automatic Windows updates, it is as if the idea is that after each driver update, if it doesn't work, to run into myriad of troubleshooters.

For now I had to roll back to the previous driver and use the instructions at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930 to prevent that to update again, and have also disabled drivers updates through System Properties/Hardware/Device Installation Settings.

The update installed for me this morning as well. I have an ASUS EEE slate ep121, it was having the same issue.

I fixed it by:

Going to device management

Mice and other pointing devices

Selecting the touch screen "mouse"

Update drives

Browse my computer for device software

Let Me pick from list of drivers

Then I selected from the list.

It took me a few tries to find the correct one. But once i found it multi touch worked again and it was responding like it should.

Hope this helps, if it doesn't hopefully I can help you find another solution.

No offense intended but yours is a copy paste response from a Windows 7 and Windows 8,x issue. Please.

I have a HP M7 Envy. I am having the same troubles as the OP. I solved the same way as the OP.

This is how I know yours is a copy paste response.

Windows Update should be granular and please give control back to power users.
