File explorer opens randomly

Hi John,

This issue might have caused due to corruption in Driver folder or due to missing driver updates. I would like to know some information about this issue so that we could assist you further.

1. Have you made any changes to the computer prior to this issue?

2. Do you get any error code or error message while startup?

I suggest you to try the following methods and check if it works for you.

Method 1:

Try installing all the latest driver from the computer manufacturer's website or from Windows Update and check if it helps.

Method 2:

Run System File checker scan and check if the issue persists. This will help you find and fix missing or corrupted System Files.

I can imagine a keyboard (or programmable mouse) malfunction being behind that symptom.  Try detaching your keyboard (after bringing up the OSK.exe to use with either a mouse, Touch, or pen).   Note that that would only be a diagnostic step to try to isolate the problem cause.  Fixing it would then involve doing something to change how your keyboard was being used.

Windows 10 is a hot mess with all these *forced* updates. Both of my home PCs are having problems caused by Windows Forced Updates. My laptop would not start and the OS could not be recovered as the recovery partition had been corrupted (Why doesn't Windows verify and repair the recovery partition on a regular basis?). So, I'm in the process of rebuilding that system from scratch - thank you Microsoft.

Over the past two years this is the second time I've had to reinstall Windows 10, all my applications and user environment. Now my other PC has been hit by what my son calls the "Windows Update Hijacker Virus" and File Explorer randomly starts a new instance every few minutes or so.

Windows 10 is an awful experience because of your forced update policy. My system was running quite well until ... Microsoft screwed it up. There are too many updates and forcing them on us is authoritarian. Remember, we paid for Windows 10 and our money (your customers money) pays everyone's salary and benefits at Microsoft.

We are not happy. Windows 10 has become the worst computing experience ever - and I've been a Windows user and developer since about day one.

And don't get me started on what Windows Update has done to our systems at work...

My system is doing this same thing.  Randomly opening windows explorer-- I get tired of Microsoft blaming something other than themselves.  Do they not have bug software testers? BEFORE they ship their updates out the door?.. or are they relying on us consumers to report them after much time, frustration and misfortune with reloading windows over and over.  Yes I also agree that I hate the forced updates.  I do think you can pause the updates if you have the pro version, but still.  I am getting other "referenced memory" messages.  I bought a brand new laptop with Window 10 home and getting the same message after one of MS updates to their "fall creator's edition".
