About Bluetooth A2DP SINK and SRC features

Environment:  Windows 8.1 on a laptop Dell 17R 5737 with an Intel(R) Wireless-N 7260 adapter with Bluetooth 4.0

iPod / iPhone BT capable device

Problem:  The laptop speakers do not play the iPod/iPhone music that is streamed over the bluetooth appaired connection.

.

I contacted the Intel Support.

It's answer is:  "Intel Bluetooth software adds that feature (both SRC and SINK). From Windows 8, Microsoft provides
native support for BT audio streaming support (only)."

or in other words: "

"this particular A2DP role (SINK) is not supported by Microsoft.  Perhaps Microsoft will consider adding support in future releases if you

provide them feedback through Windows 8.1 forums."

.

Question: Can you confirm such Intel diagnostic ( Microsoft do not support the A2DP SINK role) ?

If yes, when do you plan to bring it back to Windows 8.1 ?

On my professional laptop running Windows 7, I was able to listen to the music played on my iPod BT appaired to the laptop.

.

Here's some Microsoft documentation I read carefully:

- Overview of the A2DP SNK and SRC roles:  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc510655.aspx

- The Architectural overview: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn653977(v=vs.85).aspx

There were changes in the Windows 8.1 bluetooth processes.

- The general bluetooth support: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn133849(v=vs.85).aspx

Under Windows 8 it is stated that: Support for the HFP, A2DP, and AVRCP Profiles

.

So if Windows supports the A2DP profile correctly,it should support the SNK (SINK) and SRC roles !

.

Best regards. Gilbert.

Hi,

You actually need to contact Dell who provides both the BlueTooth hardware and the associated
drivers. Microsoft allows implementation in Windows 8.1 yet the OEM device maker has to
produce compatible hardware and drivers.
