"Unable to update public free/busy data" error message when Outlook 2000 update your published free/busy information

My stable Outlook 2000 yesterday developed this problem yesterday whilst I was away and with no system changes (I'm running Vista). I've found the Microsoft Support advice at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816942 and downloaded the recommended hotfix but when I've then attempted to install it I get another error message: that the upgrade patch can't be installed because the Outlook program may not be installed (it is) or be another version (it's O2000, which is what the patch is for).

So any ideas as to what I should do. Would it do any good just to uninstall/reinstall the program?

Thanks

Answer
Answer

1. What is the type of email account configured in Outlook (POP, IMAP, MAPI or Exchange)?

2. Is service pack 3 for Office 2000 installed on the system?

If not, download and install it and check if Outlook works fine. Refer the link mentioned below to download service pack 3 for Office 2000:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326585/EN-US

If the above steps do not fix the issue repair Office 2000 and check. Refer the link mentioned below and follow the section Method 2 to repair Office 2000:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/264625

Note: There are compatibility issues with Outlook 2000 and Windows Vista.
