Privacy settings dialog box on start of Office apps

After some Windows (10) updates yesterday I noticed my Office icons changed to a newer style.  But when I start an Office (2016) app (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) a series of dialog boxes appear.  I can't get these to stop, they happen every time I start an app.

First is a screen about 'Your data, controlled by you'.  Clicking through is a second screen  'Performing as expected' with a requirement to select to send data or not to Microsoft.  There's a third box with more info about privacy settings.  Finally, a small dialog box to 'Restart Office to apply changes to your privacy settings'.  Going into the privacy settings in the Trust Center, it shows that 'Your privacy settings have moved'.

I have closed the apps, restarted and rebooted to no avail.  I looked at undoing the update but there's not an option for it.

The updates I see installed yesterday are:

Windows Defender 1.293.763.0 and 1.293.783.0.

My next option I'm thinking about is to uninstall and reinstall Office but I wanted to check first if there's some other way to clear this issue.

Thanks for the assist.  I did try Quick Repair and the problem persisted.  Then I signed out and back in to my account.  Still had the problem.  I went into Trust Center Privacy Settings again, didn't change anything, then closed Excel.  When I re-opened Excel suddenly it no longer asked me all the questions!  I don't think I did anything to effect a change.  I have rebooted my laptop and Office is still opening OK so I guess I'm good, just puzzled.

I have same issue with all Office apps.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office and it has not helped.  After starting the app such as excel, it gives me the three screens about privacy and then says "Restart office to apply changes to your privacy settings."  No restart changes anything.  I'm really at a loss as to what to try next.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Wish I could give some suggestion but I honestly don't know what fixed mine.  Or what started it either other than possibly an update.

I too have this problem and it is very annoying. How exactly am I supposed to restart Office? There is no such function and closing/starting the applications or the device does not help at all - neither did Quick Repair nor Online Repair...

Yes, sloppy language from Microslop, but that's the culture.  I think you effectively did that by closing/starting, but you could also stop it of course via Task Manager or reboot.  I wish I could say how mine was fixed but I have no idea, I just tried things over and over.

This does not apply to the new version (1904), but this does:
https://support.office.com/en-us/article/account-privacy-settings-3e7bc183-bf52-4fd0-8e6b-78978f7f121b

Still, the problem persists... upon clicking "Manage Settings", the same message appears (i.e. "Restart Office to apply changes to your privacy settings").
