I redeem a 4200 points French card, but I can't find the amount in my Italian account.

Hi,

I already checked if anybody has had this kind of problem but I haven't found nothing as of yet.

As per the title, today I bought 4200 MS points from eBay France (I'm Italian); the seller initially sent me a used code, and to let him know that it didn't work and that I wasn't lying I had to switch the site from Italian to French to prove  the truthfulness of my claim (he doesn't speak Italian) and make a screenshot of my account page, in French.

He then sent me a new code, which it worked, the problem is that I can't find the total amount in my Italian account, but if I switch the site again to French language the amount is there.

In fact the account in Italian has a total amount of 5.62€, while the one in French has 50.40€. As you can imagine, I can't use the latter in my Italian language account when I connect to XBL from my console. And if I switch to French it doesn't recognize the location...

Is it possible to "transfer" the money from the French (language) account to the Italian one, or correct this issue in whatever manner possible?

This sounds a bit weird, but if there is a way to rectify it there is not anything you can do by yourself, and instead you will need to contact Support by phone who may be able to help you.

Go to support.xbox.com/contact-us and choose 'contact MS Support.' Choose what the issue is on the next page and make sure to 'request a call'* (or possibly 'Chat with MS Support' will work too, although phone is generally better). They will then call you and might be able to assist.

Generally money cannot be moved around, but it seems weird if, as it appears you are describing, the amount of money in a single account varies depending on the language of the page.

It's weird indeed, especially beacuse I didn't change my location to redeem the code (using my computer, not the console), I just changed the language, but now it seems it has splitted the account in two, one in French and one in Italian (or one French and one Italian). I then changed the location in my console, just to check if the money was somewhere around.

Do the support speak Italian too? It would be hard to explain such a thing by telephone in English...

You should get redirected to the Italian support page, where I presume the people you can reach do speak Italian.

I wouldn't know for sure, but it's my logical guess...

Points cards are region locked. If you redeemed a French code, then you can only use that money when your account region is France. The only way to redeem the money at this point is to change your region to France with an Account Migration. However, there are a whole host of issues with doing this if you are not physically located in France.

.

1) Your Italian money will not be available to you to use until your account is migrated back to Italy.

2) You have to wait 90 days before you could migrate your account back to Italy.

3) You will run into issues with purchasing any content that is region locked if you are not physically located in France to match your account region setting.

4) A lot of DLC with multi-language support will only allow you download in French.

5) Some DLC from other regions will not work with the main game if it is not the same region/language (Call of Duty has had this issue in the past).

It's not the first time I buy MS points from sellers from other European countries, in fact in the recent past months I bought from eBay Germany, UK and my own country, of course, and I've never had any kind of issues.

But if this specific card is region locked (and for the love of God, why? since both in France and Italy the currency is the Euro?), then why it was accepted and recognized and redeemed in my Italian account to begin with? As I previously said I didn't change my location, just the language to show the issue to the French seller who couldn't read and understand a screenshot of a page in Italian.

Speak with Support first. If it had been the case that you switched regions this would be different, but from what you said you've almost got a partition in your account, dividing French Euros and Italian ones.

If you switch regions you do not just temporarily lose the money in the account - it gets removed and cannot be retrieved at any later date. (For some reason it does not survive an account migration, more understandable when the currencies are different.)

So don't do that, a migration, until you get Support to look at your account. It may cause further problems.

(Although in future, jawest is right in that it is advisable to buy cards, previously points, from the same region as your account.)

Yes, I think that I'll follow your suggestion, especially because it seems that a migration isn't an easy and painless task.

In fact I think you are right and it is some sort of partition, because I have two amounts in my "two" accounts: the Italian one has 5,62€, the Fench one 50€, and from what you are saying, if it was a migration I shouldn't be able to see my Italian account's amount or viceversa, the French one.

Yeah, definitely seems odd.

I think you broke the system with your account. There's now a complete outage of the Live network. :P
